NOTABLE INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS! _Picolo

Hi, it's Shen and welcome to my Corner! So this week I wanted to go with a theme and the theme is (cliché drumroll....)  NOTABLE INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS! :D

Now what does this mean exactly?  Well, it means that the posts this week will be about cool art Instagrams that I personally FOLLOW, LOVE, and DEFINTELY RECOMMEND!

So without further ado.  Today's Instagram account I would like to share is _Picolo.

Gabriel Picolo, age 20, is a freelance illustrator based in Brazil and he has taken it upon himself to draw a "doodle" (in quotations because believe me, when you see it, it doesn't look like a simple "doodle")  for everyday of this year.  That's right.  His project is to create an original piece everyday for all 365 days of the 2014 year.  He uses pen and ink to go over his pencil sketched drawings and then finishes detailing in pen and ink  The subject of Picolo's doodles are ever-changing and varies often. (Though what is constant is a little black cat! Try and find him!) Most of them are his own takes of popular culture like characters from movies or video games.  However, he also draws original sketches that matches up with a specific quote he may post.  There are also some drawings that are inspired from famous artworks where he puts his own spin on the master works.  Either way, what I found great about this project and what he draws is that there is something that almost everyone can relate to, not to mention that his commitment to this project motivates me as a fellow young artist.

A couple months ago, I discovered him on Instagram and I have been following his project for sometime now and I must say that I am very impressed.  All the drawings, posted below are from this specific project and though the year is almost over, there is still time to follow him while the project is ongoing.  And so, FINALLY here are a couple of samples of his work:

Nintendo Galore!

Disney: Maleficent and the Cheshire Cat

Rosie! (the Riveter)
The Scream inspired by Edward Munch's The Scream!

Starry Night inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night
Titled: Discovery #208
“It's not what you have on the outside that glitters in light, it's what you have on the inside that shines in the dark.”
According to Picolo, this piece is about the conquest of the light of one's inner beauty.
Okay, that's all for tonight! Shen signing off!
